Today we woke up in Santa Elena early to catch a Taxi Boat Taxi ride to La Fortuna to see an active volcano, Volcan Arenal the fifth most active volcano erupting daily since 1968. The road was very bumpy and curvy and the driver was heavy on the gas. On the boat, the ride was very calm and beautiful. You could see the volcano from the lake as well as the rainforest meeting the water. A dam at one end of this lake generates 40% of Costa Ricaīs electricity. We meet two girls from our last hotel and they told us about Gringo Peteīs, it is cheap and centrally located, two of our requirements. We booked the Volcano night hike and lava watch, weather permitting, but we were not optimistic as it rains every day and the top of the volcano is almost always covered with clouds. It rained during our hike though the rainforest but we saw toucans and lots of other birds. After the hike we headed to the volcano viewpoint. This is probably the most dangerous situation we have been in. We were standing just a few kilometers away from a volcano due to erupt and lightning striking all around us, but we lived. After the tour we made pizza and went to sleep.
