Kendall's & Shelley's Central America Trip

Day 20 - San Jose to Monteverde, Costa Rica

September 22, 2007

We have a few days left on our honeymoon so we planned to go back to our favorite location in Costa Rica, Monteverde, for a few days. Their is still a lot to see here that we have not yet seen. After a five hour bus we arrived to the cool cloud forest weather and our friendly hostel. We set down our bags than took a taxi up the hill to the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve where we saw a Collared Peccary near the parking area. We hiked down a hill to the third largest privately owned bug collection in the world. This place was overwhelming and beautiful. We saw bugs that we had never even seen in books. Richard, the man who owns the collection, has been collecting bugs since he was five years old. He is from Portland. Some bugs were arranged with facts others were arranged in artistic patterns or with foliage from their habitat. It was an amazing display. We stayed for a few hours and then made an awesome pasta dinner.
