Kendall's & Shelley's Central America Trip

Day 17 - Puerto Jimenez & Golfito, Costa Rica

September 19, 2007

We had to put off Corcovado National Park one more day as last night the only ATM in town rejected all five of our different cards. This has never happened to us anywhere in the world. We stood outside the bank last night with several other frustrated foreigners. It turns out that the bank inside can access your account for a "nominal fee." Of course the bank only opens after the only transportation to the national park leaves, forcing all the cash needing tourist to extend their stay in the isolated town of Puerto Jimenez. What a scam. We decided not to support the bank and I spent all morning taking the ferry back to Golfito to get some cash and then get back. I took six hours to do this and I returned to find a well rested and freshly showered Shelley (she had just gotten up). We enjoyed the rest of the day and got our laundry done now that we could afford it.
