Kendall & Kevin's Trip Up Highway One

12-17-06 to 12-19-06

We left La Crescenta at below freezing temperatures and hit heavy fog a few miles south of Buellton. I was sleeping and woke up to Kevin almost crashing to get this neat fog photo (above). After stopping by my apartment in San Luis Obispo, we headed north to Morro Bay and got some great wildlife photos (below).

The next day we headed up Highway 1 on our way to Monterey. We spent nearly all day checking out all the sights along the highway starting with the Elephant Seals in San Simeon (above). Below are some of the many photos we took on our way to Monterey including some from Big Sur and Jade Cove.

We hiked to a secluded beach and found this monster 14 foot Elephant Seal. I used my zoom lens (above) and Kevin almost used his fingers on the 4,000 pound sleeping seal. Note: There is a little bit of optical illusion here, Kevin is at least the distance away from the seal required by the federal laws that protect these large marine mammals.

Once we got to Monterey, we ate dinner and bowled ten games (including my personal best of 147). We slept in Kevin's car for the night and had the cops question us. The next morning I had a quick dive a Breakwater Cove and we headed back home.
