Today was again a travel day. We left our hotel in Manila at 7:30 AM to catch our 10:30 flight to Bangkok. We checked our luggage in and everything was fine till we reached a gate with a 550 peso "terminal fee". To reach the departure gates, everyone must pay this fee. We had no idea such a fee existed and of course they did not take credit cards at the gate charging the fee. I had 970 pesos so I needed another 180 (about $3.50) to pass. I had to exit the airport and hunt down an ATM, which of course was not working. I found a bank, but they could not help. The one store in the terminal refused to help (by simply charging our card for cash back, even when a bribe was offered). I next spoke to the airline supervisor but he could not help. It was ridiculous, we spent two hours in an international airport with no option of entry to our flight because of $3.50. Finally, we resorted to begging and a young American guy spotted us the change. We flew into Bangkok and finally Phuket. We have a wonderful room here in Patong Beach, Phuket. We met a wonderful guy from Holland. His name is Danny and we went to dinner with him. We are staying in one of the hardest hit areas from the 2004 tsunami, but almost everything has been rebuilt.
