Kendall's & Shelley's Asia Trip

Day 3 - Sabang Then White Beach on Mindoro Island, Philippines

August 26, 2006

Our luck with the rain ended last night. With a single ground shaking lighting strike, it began to pour, our power went out, and our roof began to leak (over Shelley of course). The one strike was the only lightning that hit our island. We grabbed a flashlight and I found a bucket and put a sock in it to catch and silence the leaking rain water. Soon we heard someone flicking fuse switches and they turned on a generator (good think because the power remained out for the next 10 hours). The rain ended by morning but the skies were still overcast. Today we both did three more dives and Shelley became an official PADI Certified Open Water Diver. We did the first dive in the bay, and then took a boat to West Escandero, than another boat to Hole in The Wall near Sabang Point. They were wonderful dives. After our dives we hired a banca (small motor boat) to take us to White Beach about a 45 minute boat ride. The boat drove right on to the beach and we hopped off and found a room for the night. After securing our room we headed down for dinner. We found a restaurant with tables on the beach (literally in the sand with peaceful waves breaking 10 feet away). Shelley got a large chicken kabob with rice and I ordered a chicken sandwich and a large order of French fries. We shared 6 beverages. The bill with tip was about $6. Back at our room we meet the three people staying next to us. They work for the Kodak technical support in Manila. It was very interesting to hear what they go through answering our questions. They were a funny bunch of people.
