Today we were picked up at 7:30 AM to begin our jungle safari. We made the 3 hour journey north to Khao Sok Rainforest. There were four other guests going on the journey with us and they were from London and Belgium. At the starting point there was a lodges with coffee. A small monkey was hanging out there, waiting for handouts. Our first activity was a canoe trip down a jungle river. On the trip our guide spotted two mangrove snakes (poisonous), a turtle, and a monitor lizard. We even spotted a python towards the end of our river trip. We arrived at beautiful jungle lodge and ate a fantastic Thai lunch. Next up was elephant trekking. The elephants were wonderful we climbed on their backs and trekked for about an hour deep into the rainforest and back again. Every so often our elephant would just reach out with its trunk and pull a small tree out of the jungle. After the ride we were able to feed the elephants and pet them. It was wonderful. They love sugar cane, the tops of pineapple plants, and bananas. Next we all got in the van and Shelley and I were dropped off at the jungle lodge and the 4 four guest went home. We had the entire place to ourselves. I put on my trunks and went out into the river with my net. I caught a bunch of neat tropical fish and saw some neat spiders too. The staff at the lodge was awesome and made a private dinner for us on an orchid covered table. At night I went out with my flashlight and camera and found several frogs, toads, and even millipedes.
