Our birds have flown at dozens of events including weddings, local elementary and high school events, and several funerals at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills and Glendale.
About Our Birds
Do the Birds Really Return? - Our birds are actually a close
relative to doves, homing pigeons, these birds have the unique ability
to find their way back home to the loft from great distances. They fly
at an average speed of 50 miles per hour and can fly from distances
up to 500 miles or more away. Scientists are not sure how they navigate
but believe they may use the Earth's magnetic poles, the sun, or even
follow roads to find their way. Every bird we release was born and trained
right at our loft in La Crescenta. It takes several months to train
our birds until they are ready to fly at your events. Why we use Homing Pigeons instead of Doves - While most traditions
call for White Doves, 99.9% of "doves" released today are
White Homing Pigeons. Doves are very difficult to train and do not return
to their loft. Instead after being released they often wander the unfamiliar
location confused and hungry. Pigeons are just as beautiful as doves
and enjoy their flight back to the loft. They gracefully circle the
location they are released from, then fly as a team back to the loft.
RatesOur rates depend on location of release, number of birds, and type of release (self or professional). For local La Crescenta and La Canada schools, our service is usually free (for school events). Memorial services are also a discounted rate. Bird releases at Animal Birthday Parties are included in the birthday rate. For a quote for your event please call our email us (contact information is listed above). Our Service AreaWhile the birds are trained to fly distances over 200 miles we limit our range to events in certain locations. Our main coverage area is: La Crescenta, La Canada, Glendale, Burbank, Tujunga, Sunland, Van Nuys, Pasadena, Altadena, Hollywood Hills, & the Valley. We often fly beyond this range so be sure to email or call us to ask if your event's location will work. We do not release our birds after dark (or close to sunset), in stormy weather, from indoors, or from any location we feel will threaten our birds safe flight home. We love our birds and their safety is our first priority. Company HistoryOur Dove Release Business is family run and our family has been raising homing pigeons for many years. We work together taking care of our birds (mostly my dad Carl and me Kendall). Our birds enjoy a roomy loft plus daily flights around the neighborhood. We started breeding and training White Homing Pigeons in December of 2005 after acquiring 4 pairs from a breeder in Arizona. We take pride in our quality birds and the services they provide.
